Welcome to Skerries Golf Club
Skerries Golf Club, founded in 1905, is a championship 18 hole parkland golf course located approximately six miles east of the Dublin - Belfast M1 Motorway and just twenty minutes North of Dublin Airport. Renowned for its undulating fairways, strategically positioned bunkers, and an abundance of varied and mature trees, it measures 6116 metres from the medal tees and challenges golfers of all abilities with a par of 73 for men and 74 for ladies. Boasting one of the most spectacular finishing holes in Ireland, it also provides magnificent panoramic views of the Irish Sea and coastline extending from the Mountains of Mourne to Howth. Visitors are extremely welcome and never disappointed with their Skerries golfing experience.
Sylvia AlcockLady Captain
We, Gerry and Sylvia are delighted to have been elected as Captains of our respective Golf Clubs for the year 2014 and would like to thank everyone for all the good wishes and promises of support over the coming year which are very much appreciated and will be of great assistance to us in making the year of 2014 a successful and enjoyable golfing year for everybody.
The most important aspect of Skerries Golf Club, and a priority for us this year, is the provision of a top quality golf course, in prime condition, for Members and visitors alike. Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather conditions and abnormal rainfall in recent years, we have experienced difficulties on the course, but last year a major programme of drainage and other improvements was undertaken, a programme which we hope to continue this year in consultation with our Committees, Course Committees and external expertise, as required, ensuring best possible playing conditions.
A most important function of Skerries Golf Club is the promotion of underage golf, and the development of our Junior/Juvenile Members who are so much a part of the future of the Club and we will continue to support the dedicated hard work of this sub-Committee and the many volunteers involved, without whom it would not be possible, to have such a thriving Junior/Juvenile Section and so provide for the future of the Club and spread the love of golf to our younger members.
Interclub competition and participation in teams is another important part of the golfing year. Each year our teams, Ladies, Men's and Mixed do battle with varying degrees of success, but always with pride and dignity, showing great sportsmanship and being great ambassadors for our Club. Long may it continue. This would not happen without the tireless work and committed input from our Overall Team Managers and Team Managers, together with our Vice Captains Brian and Fionnuala, and we hope it is an enjoyable and exciting experience for all involved and we wish them well in their endeavours and hope to see some silverware this year as a reward for their combined efforts.
To us, the social activities of the Club are very important and we will be supporting the mixed competitions on Saturdays, both in the golf and participating in the ensuing mixed social nights and hope they will continue to grow in popularity. We would like to see these evenings continue to be as well supported as they have been in the past year. We will also be supporting other social events in the club and we would look for your support for these as well in order to promote an enjoyable and productive year for the Club. It is through this support that the Club can thrive financially which is to the benefit of us all.
Visitors and friends of Members are most welcome to use the restaurant and bar facilities and also to play golf, either in Open Competitions or as casual green fees and will, in either case, be made most welcome by all staff and Members alike.
Finally, we look forward to working with our Vice Captains, Brian and Fionnuala, in the coming year and we would also like to wish all Members health, happiness and good golf for 2014 and look forward to seeing you throughout the year.
